A Guatemalan national has been sentenced to federal prison for illegally reentering the United States, according to an announcement by Eastern District of Texas Acting U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin, Jr.
Carlos Rodriguez-Torres, 42, admitted guilt to the charge of reentry of a deported alien and received an 18-month sentence in federal prison from U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on February 18, 2025.
Court records indicate that Rodriguez-Torres was located in Lumberton on April 18, 2024. Checks conducted through data systems confirmed his status as a citizen and national of Guatemala who was unlawfully present in the United States. Further investigation revealed that Rodriguez-Torres had been deported or removed to Guatemala on four previous occasions: March 14, 2012; October 9, 2012; March 12, 2013; and January 8, 2019. Additionally, he had a prior conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm by an alien on February 20, 2018, within the Eastern District of Texas.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations along with the Lumberton Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Quinn.
