A San Antonio resident, James Anthony Kirkwood, has been sentenced to 78 months in federal prison following his guilty plea to charges of Hobbs Act Robbery.

Court documents reveal that Kirkwood, aged 70, committed robberies at six national chain stores in San Antonio from January 28 to January 31, 2023. He used an Airsoft gun during these incidents, which employees mistook for a real firearm. The stores targeted included two Dollar General locations, two Dollar Tree outlets, a PetSmart, and a Big Lots.

At the time of these crimes, Kirkwood was on state parole for aggravated robbery. His arrest occurred on February 13, 2023, and he entered a guilty plea in July 2024.

Acting U.S. Attorney Margaret Leachman for the Western District of Texas announced the sentencing. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives alongside the San Antonio Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney William Calve led the prosecution.
