Marc H. Silverman, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, has announced that Katrell Johnson, 35, from Enfield, has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison. U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill handed down the sentence in Bridgeport. Johnson's imprisonment will be followed by 10 years of supervised release for charges related to producing and possessing child sex abuse images and videos.

Court documents revealed that in April and May 2023, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) received CyberTipline reports from Google and WhatsApp. These reports indicated that accounts linked to Johnson had been used to upload content depicting the sexual abuse of children. A search authorized by the court uncovered around 1,500 images and videos on two of Johnson’s Google accounts. This included material involving prepubescent children as well as images created by Johnson himself featuring two minor victims he had abused.

Johnson was arrested on July 13, 2023, and has remained detained since then. He pleaded guilty on February 14, 2024, to two counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

The investigation into this case was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) along with the Enfield Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan J. Guevremont prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood Initiative led by the U.S. Department of Justice aimed at protecting children from sexual exploitation and abuse. More information about this initiative can be found at www.justice.gov/psc.
