A Virginia resident has admitted guilt in a federal court for assaulting law enforcement officers during the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Lewis Wayne Snoots, aged 59 from Louisa, Virginia, entered his guilty plea on October 8, 2024. He was charged with a felony offense of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers before U.S. District Judge Dabney L. Friedrich. The sentencing is scheduled for January 17, 2025.

Court documents reveal that by approximately 3:00 p.m. on January 6th, United States Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police Department officers had formed a police line at one of the two glass doorways inside the Lower West Terrace Tunnel to prevent rioters from entering the Capitol building.

At around 3:14 p.m., Snoots was identified as a participant in the crowd who pushed through to reach the front of this police line while wearing a gas mask. Over several minutes, he and others attempted to breach the line and enter the building.

During these attempts, another rioter used a USCP riot shield against officers while Snoots assisted by applying force to it. At about 3:17 p.m., when officers tried to reclaim control of the shield, Snoots handed it back to other rioters.

By approximately 3:18 p.m., an MPD officer was dragged into the crowd outside by another rioter shouting “Hey! I got one!” Video footage shows Snoots moving towards this commotion and maintaining contact with the officer as they were pulled further into the mob.

Outside of the Tunnel area, this officer suffered multiple assaults including being tased and robbed of their badge and radio. Another individual attempted to seize their service weapon amid threats while repeated taser shocks caused significant injuries including unconsciousness lasting over two minutes.

Following these incidents within restricted areas of Capitol grounds—still recorded—Snoots expressed his frustrations stating: "I’m fed up with it... They have tear-gassed our ass off... but it’s not over."

Snoots was arrested by FBI agents on September 5th last year after being identified as BOLO #113 through information photos circulated by authorities investigating these events.
