A man from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, has been sentenced to 68 months in federal prison for his involvement in drug trafficking and possession of a firearm. Nedall Alwan, aged 30, admitted guilt to the charges on January 14, 2025.
Court documents and evidence presented in court reveal that in March 2023, the Tarboro Police Department and the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office were informed about Alwan's illegal activities. Alwan, who ran a vape and tobacco shop in Tarboro, was suspected of selling narcotics. Between March 8 and April 5, 2023, law enforcement conducted three controlled buys of "Perc 30" pills from Alwan. Tests confirmed the pills contained fentanyl. When Alwan's business was searched on April 6, 2023, authorities discovered 290 "M-30" pills, amounting to 30 grams of fentanyl, a 9mm rifle, and $9,533 in cash. Law enforcement also found a 9mm handgun in his car and additional cash at his home.
Daniel P. Bubar, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, announced the sentencing, supervised by U.S. District Judge Louise W. Flanagan. The investigation involved the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Enforcement, Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office, and police departments from Tarboro and Rocky Mount. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Severo.
