A Pennsylvania man has been charged with making threats against President Donald J. Trump, various U.S. officials, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Shawn Monper, aged 32 from Butler, Pennsylvania, was charged based on a federal criminal complaint.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi praised the investigative efforts, stating, “I want to applaud the outstanding and courageous investigative work of the FBI and the Butler Township Police Department, who thankfully identified and apprehended this individual before he could carry out his threats against President Trump’s life and the lives of other innocent Americans.” She added that the Department of Justice would pursue such cases vigorously, seeking the maximum appropriate punishment.
The Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, Troy Rivetti, supported Attorney General Bondi's announcement.
The FBI National Threat Operations Section (NTOS) received an alert on April 8 about threats posted by the YouTube user “Mr Satan.” Federal agents later linked these activities to Monper's residence in Butler. The investigation revealed that the threats occurred from January 15 to April 5. Monper reportedly obtained a firearms permit shortly after President Trump's inauguration.
Notably, Monper purportedly made several alarming comments on YouTube, including intentions of acquiring firearms and planning violent actions. Statements included threats against President Trump and ICE personnel.
On April 9, the FBI and the Butler Township Police Department apprehended Monper. He was detained pending hearings scheduled for April 14.
The FBI, alongside the Butler Township Police Department, continues to investigate. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan J. McKenna is handling the prosecution.
It's important to note that a criminal complaint is an accusation, and Monper is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
