In April, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) is observed, with the Justice Department's Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) at the forefront. This year's observance is held from April 6-12. Started in 1981, NCVRW aims to honor crime victims, promote their rights, and recognize the work of those who advocate on their behalf. The theme for this year's week is “Connecting < KINSHIP > Healing,” emphasizing the importance of shared humanity in supporting survivors and victims.

In Raleigh, the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices for North Carolina's Western, Middle, and Eastern Districts marked the occasion by hosting a ceremony. This event aimed to bolster community engagement, raise awareness, and recognize crime victims. It featured a remembrance event for victims and an award ceremony acknowledging outstanding service and support to victims and survivors.

"Today we honor the victims of crimes and celebrate those who work to restore hope in the face of loss and tragedy," stated Daniel P. Bubar, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina. He expressed appreciation for the efforts of law enforcement and victim advocates, highlighting their role in creating communities essential for the healing process.

Randall Galyon, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina, remarked, "Each year during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, we recognize people whose physical, financial, and emotional well-being has been shattered by crime, and those who work to support them." He emphasized the ongoing commitment to seek justice and instill hope in victims and their families.

Russ Ferguson, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, said, "We wish there were no victims of crime, and eliminating crime is our goal and motivation." He reiterated the resolve to uphold victims' rights and ensure their voices are consistently heard, well beyond just the observance week.

The NCVRW ceremony in Raleigh saw attendance by Acting U.S. Attorney Daniel P. Bubar (EDNC), Acting U.S. Attorney Randall Galyon (MDNC), and U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson (WDNC).
