A man from San Antonio has been sentenced in federal court in Del Rio to over 21 years in prison for his involvement in a drug smuggling conspiracy. The case involved Juan Antonio Lucha, aged 27, who was linked to a smuggling organization responsible for bringing five kilograms of methamphetamine and 1,627 grams of fentanyl from Mexico into the United States. Lucha was apprehended on June 27, 2020, at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry.

The indictment came in July 2020 when Lucha, along with co-defendants Juan Sustaita Rodriguez and Natalie Andrea Vasquez, faced charges related to drug trafficking. On October 25, 2021, Lucha confessed to conspiracy to import methamphetamine.

Vasquez received a 300-month prison sentence on February 12, 2024, for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Rodriguez had admitted guilt on January 28, 2021, for a similar charge and is awaiting sentencing on November 24, 2025.

This announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Margaret Leachman for the Western District of Texas. The investigation was led by Homeland Security Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Garland is handling the prosecution of the case.
