Jimmy Franklin King, Jr., a 35-year-old resident of Charleston, has been sentenced to 115 months in federal prison. King was convicted for possessing seven firearms as a felon, including several unregistered and untraceable "ghost guns."

Investigations revealed that King imported firearm parts and components from China to his North Charleston home, which included an illegal silencer. A search warrant led agents to discover illegal firearms, ammunition, and 3D printed gun parts at his residence. Among the items found were two 3D printers and software for printing machine gun conversion devices. King was arrested in September 2023 with two additional unregistered firearms.

United States District Judge David C. Norton imposed the maximum sentence according to the United States Sentencing Guidelines: 115 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. The federal system does not allow parole.

The case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security Investigations with support from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cole Shannon is leading the prosecution.
