A resident of Monterrey, Mexico, has been sentenced for conspiring to import 300 pounds of methamphetamine into the United States. U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei announced that Allan Alberto Moreno Trevino, 41, pleaded guilty on March 5, 2024.

U.S. District Judge Diana Saldaña sentenced Trevino to 87 months in federal prison. As he is not a U.S. citizen, removal proceedings are expected after his imprisonment. During the hearing, evidence was presented showing Trevino's previous involvement with drug traffickers, including an instance where he removed a fuel tank containing drugs from another vehicle for $1,000. The court emphasized that despite this being Trevino’s first offense, the sentence reflected his significant involvement.

On November 22, 2023, Trevino drove a Ford F-250 from Mexico across the Laredo Colombia Solidarity International Bridge and was referred for secondary inspection by law enforcement officers who detected anomalies in the vehicle’s fuel tank through x-ray imaging.

While authorities inspected the vehicle, they observed Trevino pacing nervously and asking if anything had been found. Officers discovered that the fuel tank contained liquid meth mixed with gasoline. They extracted nine buckets of this mixture weighing approximately 137.2 kilograms and valued at an estimated $340,000 on the street.

Trevino admitted as part of his plea agreement that he expected payment between $1,500 and $2,000 for transporting the drugs from Mexico to San Antonio where others would extract the liquid meth.

Trevino will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility yet to be determined.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations with assistance from Customs and Border Protection. Assistant U.S. Attorney Homero Ramirez is prosecuting the case.
