Dante Frazier, aged 45, was sentenced to 188 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon on February 6, 2025. The sentencing includes four years of supervised release and a $200 mandatory special assessment fee. Frazier previously pleaded guilty to charges including possession with intent to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine and a quantity of cocaine, violating Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1), 841(b)(1)(B), and 841(b)(1)(C). He was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm under Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2).

Court documents reveal that New Orleans Police Department officers responded to an emergency call where they found Frazier unconscious in the driver's seat of a vehicle. Upon noticing the officers' presence, Frazier attempted to flee by driving onto the Saint Claude Avenue neutral ground, hitting a median before entering a gas station parking lot and fleeing on foot. During his escape, he fired five shots from a Mossberg International Model 715P handgun at the officers before hiding beneath a nearby house. NOPD officers eventually apprehended Frazier along with his vehicle containing significant amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine intended for distribution. Prior convictions against Frazier include three counts of armed robbery and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. On May 26, 2021, the Department introduced a strategy to enhance PSN by building community trust, supporting preventive community-based organizations, focusing on strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department conducted the investigation for this case. Assistant United States Attorney David Berman from the Violent Crime Unit is handling the prosecution.
