A resident of Queens, New York, has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for his involvement in an interstate methamphetamine trafficking operation. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Stephanie L. Haines on January 21, 2025. Timothy Paz, aged 32, will also serve three years of supervised release following his incarceration.
The conviction follows a six-month Title III wiretap investigation into drug trafficking activities in Blair, Cambria, Centre, and Clearfield counties of Pennsylvania. According to court documents, Paz acted as a courier transporting approximately seven pounds of methamphetamine from the New York City area to Altoona, Pennsylvania. He also carried large sums of U.S. currency as payment for the drugs from an Altoona-based distributor back to the supplier.
Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan D. Lusty prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti praised several agencies for their roles in the investigation and successful prosecution of Paz. These agencies include the Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Postal Service – Office of Inspector General, United States Postal Inspection Service, Homeland Security Investigations, Internal Revenue Service, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, and Pennsylvania State Police.
This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation aimed at identifying and dismantling high-level drug traffickers and criminal organizations threatening the United States through a coordinated approach involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
