Angela Crosland, a former correctional officer at the Federal Correctional Institution Williamsburg in Salters, has been found guilty of multiple charges including bribery, money laundering, and drug distribution. The federal jury delivered the verdict after a two-day trial.

During her tenure at FCI Williamsburg, Crosland smuggled various contraband items such as suboxone, methamphetamine, K-2-soaked paper, marijuana, tobacco, and food into the facility in exchange for payments. Evidence showed that she received $56,791 through Cash App from family members and associates of inmates over nine months. This income was not reported on her federal tax returns.

U.S. Attorney Adair Ford Boroughs emphasized the importance of integrity among public service workers: “Those who work in public service, especially in law enforcement and corrections, must be held to a higher standard." He added that Crosland’s actions compromised trust and safety within the prison system.

Eric Fehlman from the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General Southeast Region stated that Crosland's activities endangered the security of FCI Williamsburg: “Crosland smuggled drugs and other contraband into the federal prison in exchange for tens of thousands of dollars in bribes.”

Donald “Trey” Eakins from the IRS Criminal Investigation underscored their commitment to tackling corruption: “The IRS is committed to working alongside our law enforcement partners to provide financial expertise while investigating individuals who engage in corruption, money laundering, and tax fraud.”

United States District Judge Joseph Dawson III presided over the trial. Sentencing will occur after he reviews a pre-sentence report from the U.S. Probation office.

The investigation was conducted by the Department of Justice's Office of Inspector General and IRS Criminal Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Bill Watkins and Winston Marosek are handling prosecution duties.
