Senior U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton, Jr. has sentenced Edward Camacho, a 20-year-old from Winter Garden, to four years and three months in federal prison for the theft of firearms from a licensed dealer. Camacho entered his guilty plea on September 17, 2024.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on August 18, 2023. Camacho used a vehicle to break into a federally licensed firearms business around midnight. He smashed through the front door and wall before entering and breaking into a glass case containing multiple firearms. Six firearms were stolen during the burglary.
Camacho was caught less than two hours later following a foot chase with law enforcement officers. During the pursuit, he discarded three firearms onto the ground; two of these were confirmed as stolen from the business.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives alongside the Winter Park Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie Alexa McNeff prosecuted the case.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that collaborates with various levels of law enforcement and communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence while enhancing neighborhood safety. The Department launched a strengthened violent crime reduction strategy for PSN on May 26, 2021, emphasizing community trust and legitimacy, supporting violence prevention organizations, strategic enforcement priorities, and result measurement.
