U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Corrigan has sentenced Alandrae David Brown, a 30-year-old Jamaican citizen, to seven months in federal prison for identity theft. Brown had pleaded guilty on August 27, 2024.
Court documents reveal that in September 2017, Brown acquired a Florida driver's license using another person's identity. He claimed to be a U.S. citizen born in the U.S. Virgin Islands and supported his application with a birth certificate and Social Security number that were later found to be fraudulent.
In April 2024, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrested Brown, who presented himself as the person whose identity he had assumed. Immigration authorities interviewed him due to suspicions about his identity and citizenship. Despite evidence from passport and driver license records indicating otherwise, Brown continued to assert his false identity until confronted with irrefutable proof.
Upon being charged, Brown admitted his real name and origin, acknowledging his illegal status in the United States. His identity was verified by Jamaican authorities.
Tim Hemker, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Jacksonville assistant special agent in charge, commented on the case: “This recidivist criminal’s pattern of disregard for the law and identity theft is a betrayal of conscience and a direct assault on the victim’s life,” emphasizing that "identity theft is never a victimless crime as it devastates people emotionally and financially."
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations, with Assistant United States Attorney Arnold B. Corsmeier prosecuting the case.
