A man from St. Louis, Missouri, who evaded capture for six years after robbing a credit union, has pleaded guilty to the crime. Daniel Harris, 66, admitted his guilt in U.S. District Court in St. Louis on Tuesday to one felony count of bank robbery.

Harris confessed to robbing a credit union located in the 4400 block of Chippewa Street in St. Louis on March 15, 2017. During the robbery, he approached a teller and placed a note on the counter stating, “I have a gun give me the money now.” After receiving cash from the teller, Harris left and discarded two jackets and a baseball cap nearby. Investigators discovered these items along with a receipt bearing Harris' name in one of the jacket pockets. His image was captured by surveillance cameras during the robbery and later identified by both a relative and a former employer.

Following his indictment on October 11, 2017, Harris was eventually located by the FBI in Phoenix and arrested there on August 9, 2023.

Harris is set to be sentenced on March 4, 2025. The charge could result in up to 20 years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine or both.

The investigation was conducted by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Linda Lane is handling prosecution duties for this case.

This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy as part of PSN focusing on fostering community trust and legitimacy, supporting preventive community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
