A Nebraska man has admitted guilt in connection to two violent carjackings in Minneapolis, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick.
Court documents reveal that on June 16, 2024, Nathan Mathias Sughroue, aged 31, confronted his first victim and demanded she exit her black Hyundai Elantra. He forcibly removed her from the vehicle while threatening her with a knife. Following this incident, a Shakopee Police Department officer identified the stolen Elantra and attempted a traffic stop using his siren, but Sughroue managed to evade capture. Sughroue then drove to a gas station in Bloomington, Minnesota, where he approached his second victim and demanded the keys to his Nissan Murano SUV. The second victim resisted, leading to an altercation during which Sughroue stabbed him multiple times before fleeing in the Nissan Murano.
Sughroue has pleaded guilty to one count of carjacking and another count of carjacking resulting in serious bodily injury in U.S. District Court before Judge John R. Tunheim. A sentencing hearing is yet to be scheduled.
The case stems from an investigation by several law enforcement agencies including the Shakopee Police Department, Robbinsdale Police Department, Minneapolis Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, and the FBI.
Assistant U.S. Attorney David M. Classen is handling the prosecution of this case.
