U.S. District Judge William F. Jung has sentenced Kellis Dion Jackson, also known as Chandler Dante Alexander, to six years in federal prison for multiple offenses, including making a false statement to a federal agency, theft of government property, and fraudulent use of a Social Security number. The court also ordered Jackson to pay $46,695 in restitution. A federal jury found him guilty on August 13, 2024.
Evidence presented at the trial revealed that Jackson stole Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability benefits from the Social Security Administration while under federal supervision for previous offenses. Before applying for SSI, he obtained a Social Security number under the fictional identity of Chandler Dante Alexander by falsely claiming he had never been issued an SSN and providing incorrect information about his birthdate and parents.
Using this fraudulently obtained SSN, Jackson acquired a Commercial Driver’s License, worked, filed tax returns, got married, and opened bank accounts. He later applied for SSI and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits using his real name and valid SSN. On his SSI application and related documents, he falsely claimed he was not married. His application was approved based on these false statements but would not have been if he had reported his marriage and work activity under the fraudulent SSN.
The case was investigated by the Social Security Administration - Office of the Inspector General; the Department of Health and Human Services - Office of the Inspector General; and the United States Department of Agriculture - Office of the Inspector General. Special Assistant United States Attorney Suzanne Huyler prosecuted it.
