U.S. District Judge Matthew T. Schelp has sentenced a Mexican national to a year and a day in prison following an incident involving firearms and fraudulent identification documents. The sentencing took place on Tuesday in St. Louis.
The individual, Donnovan Mallen, 22, residing in Berkeley, Missouri, will face deportation upon completion of his prison term. Mallen had previously entered a guilty plea in August to charges stemming from an event on February 26, 2021. On that date, he was involved in a road rage incident where another vehicle pursued him and fired shots at him in St. Charles, Missouri. In response, Mallen admitted to firing one shot into the air.
Authorities discovered a loaded 10mm semi-automatic pistol under the front passenger seat of Mallen's Dodge Charger during their investigation; the car also had damage consistent with gunfire. Additionally, Mallen was found with fraudulent identification documents including a Permanent Resident Card and Social Security card.
Mallen's guilty plea was entered for illegal entry into the United States and unlawful possession of a firearm by an illegal alien at the U.S. District Court in St. Louis.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations along with the St. Charles Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Christian Goeke.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities nationwide. The Department's strategy for PSN emphasizes community trust and legitimacy, support for community-based violence prevention organizations, strategic enforcement priorities, and results measurement.
