Okmulgee man pleads guilty to federal firearm charge

Wilbert Lamon Rivers, a 26-year-old resident of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to a federal firearm charge. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma confirmed that Rivers admitted to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

According to the indictment, Rivers was found in possession of a semiautomatic pistol and forty rounds of ammunition on November 4, 2023. This occurred after he had been previously convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison.

The case was investigated by the Muscogee (Creek) Lighthorse Police Department, the Okmulgee Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Jason A. Robertson accepted Rivers' plea in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. A presentence investigation report has been ordered, and Rivers will remain in custody with the United States Marshal Service until sentencing.

Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan E. Soverly represented the prosecution in this case.
