A Texas resident, Matthew Hunter Colville, has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison for illegal firearm possession. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma made the announcement regarding Colville, a 32-year-old from Mount Pleasant, Texas.
The case stemmed from an investigation conducted by the United States Marshals Service, the Eastern District of Oklahoma Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. On March 19, 2024, Colville pleaded guilty to a charge of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
According to investigators, on September 24, 2023, members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force arrested Colville on outstanding warrants from Texas for Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant and Unlawful Possession of Firearm by a Felon. During his arrest, law enforcement seized a chamber-loaded 9mm pistol and a loaded magazine from him. At that time, Colville had already been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison and was therefore prohibited from possessing firearms.
The sentencing hearing took place in Muskogee, Oklahoma. It was presided over by Senior U.S. District Judge John C. Coughenour from the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington, who was sitting by assignment. Colville will remain in custody with the U.S. Marshal until he is transported to a designated facility within the United States Bureau of Prisons to serve his non-paroleable sentence.
Assistant United States Attorneys Rachel Geizura and Edith Singer represented the prosecution in this case.
