A Texas man, Douglas Lynn Greer, was sentenced to over three years in federal prison after being found with firearms during a traffic stop. Greer, 41, from Fort Worth, pleaded guilty on March 26, 2024, to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He admitted to having four firearms in his car when stopped for speeding in Clayton County, Iowa. Previously convicted of making terroristic threats and offering a forged check, Greer's latest conviction adds to his criminal record.

United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Greer in Cedar Rapids to 40 months' imprisonment followed by a three-year supervised release term. The federal system does not allow parole.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that unites law enforcement and communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence. The Department launched a strategy on May 26, 2021, enhancing PSN with principles like fostering community trust and setting strategic enforcement priorities.

Greer remains in the custody of the United States Marshal until he is transferred to a federal prison.

Assistant United States Attorney Patrick J. Reinert prosecuted the case. It was investigated by the Clayton County Sheriff's Office, the Clayton County Attorney's Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
