U.S. District Judge Marcia Morales Howard has sentenced Daniel Michael Mohat, a 27-year-old resident of St. Cloud, to ten years in federal prison for attempting to entice a minor online for sexual activity. Mohat pleaded guilty on July 2, 2024, and has been detained since his arrest on January 5, 2023.

The plea agreement reveals that in August 2022, law enforcement conducted an undercover operation based in Nassau County, Florida. The multi-agency initiative aimed to identify individuals exploiting juveniles through the internet for sexual purposes. During this operation, Mohat communicated with an undercover agent posing as a 14-year-old girl via social media. Over several days, he engaged in sexually explicit conversations and requested explicit videos and images from the "girl."

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney David B. Mesrobian prosecuted it.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program brings together resources from federal, state, and local levels to apprehend and prosecute offenders while identifying and rescuing victims.
