David Johnson, a 37-year-old resident of Euclid, has been sentenced to 37 years in prison. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Dan Polster following Johnson's guilty plea to multiple armed robbery charges and being a felon in possession of a firearm. His prior convictions include involuntary manslaughter and aggravated robbery.
Court documents reveal that between November 2019 and January 2020, Johnson committed several robberies at businesses in Northeast Ohio. He used a loaded firearm to threaten employees during these incidents. The locations targeted included a Sunoco gas station in Euclid on November 27, 2019; a BP gas station in Parkman on January 18, 2020; a Dollar General in Chardon also on January 18, 2020; and a Gas Mart gas station in Euclid on January 25, 2020.
Law enforcement officials discovered a stolen vehicle linked to the robberies at Johnson's residence. A search warrant executed at his home led to the recovery of clothing and a firearm matching those seen in surveillance footage.
The investigation involved multiple agencies: the FBI, ATF, Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, Geauga County Prosecutor’s Office, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, Euclid Police Department, Willoughby Police Department, and the Cleveland Division of Police.
The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Margaret Kane and Joseph Dangelo from the Northern District of Ohio.
