A Millbrook, Alabama man has been sentenced to 165 months in prison for possession of cocaine and marijuana with the intent to distribute. Derrick Andrea White, aged 44, received the sentence on October 10, 2024, as announced by Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson. Following his prison term, White will also serve three years of supervised release. It is important to note that federal inmates are not eligible for parole.
The case dates back to March 18, 2023, when an Alabama state trooper attempted a traffic stop in Wetumpka due to a vehicle violation. The driver, identified as White, did not comply and fled the scene. During the pursuit, White was seen discarding objects from his car window. The chase concluded at a dead end where White exited his vehicle and attempted to escape on foot but was captured shortly after.
Upon investigation, the discarded items were found to be packages containing cocaine and marijuana. At his plea hearing on July 9, 2024, White admitted he intended to distribute these illegal substances.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency led the investigation into this case with support from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) among other agencies. Assistant United States Attorneys Justin L. Jones and Eric M. Counts were responsible for prosecuting this case.
