Two men from Texas and Virginia have been arrested for assaulting law enforcement and other charges during the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol. Their actions and those of others disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to ascertain and count the electoral votes related to the 2020 presidential election.
Donald Ross Workman, 40, of Hereford, Texas, and John Walter Clark IV, 36, of Culpeper, Virginia, are charged in a criminal complaint filed in the District of Columbia with felony offenses of assaulting, resisting or impeding officers and civil disorder. In addition to the felonies, the two men are charged with four misdemeanor offenses: entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a Capitol building; and act of physical violence in the Capitol grounds or buildings.
The FBI arrested Workman in Hereford, Texas; he made his initial appearance in the Northern District of Texas. Clark was arrested in Virginia and made his initial appearance in the Western District of Virginia.
According to court documents, Workman and Clark attended the “Stop the Steal” rally on Jan. 6 near the Washington Monument in Washington D.C., where United States Park Police uniformed officers took an individual into custody. A crowd including Workman and Clark then aggressively advanced upon the officers. In response to this action by the crowd, officers retreated into an enclosed glass structure known as the Visitor Screening Center at the base of the Washington Monument. Workman, Clark, and others approached this glass structure where they yelled at and taunted officers.
Later that day around 12:53 p.m., Workman and Clark moved toward Capitol grounds where they chased United States Capitol (USCP) officers down a walkway toward restricted areas. According to reports, Workman pushed a USCP officer who was attempting to prevent them from proceeding further onto restricted grounds. When pushed back by this officer himself, Clark intervened by shoulder-checking him away from Workman.
Workman and Clark were among some of first rioters breaching police lines on Maryland Avenue walkway that day as well as later efforts by USCP personnel attempting establishment bike rack barricade barriers West Plaza prevent rioters proceeding further either onto grounds themselves building itself approximately around same time frame about five minutes later both tried prevent police doing so grabbing barricades away them while continuing front line struggle against authorities there too ultimately
