Montgomery, Alabama – The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Alabama announced today the sentencing of the third and final defendant involved in an armed robbery of a convenience store.

On August 15, 2024, Marquis Shawn McKeithen, 33, from Montgomery, Alabama, was sentenced to 141 months in prison. Previously, on October 19, 2023, Kallisa Ann Mendenhall, 27, a resident of Tyler, Alabama, received a sentence of 114 months. On July 13, 2023, Jon'derius Lashon Scott, 21, also from Montgomery, was sentenced to 94 months. All three defendants had pleaded guilty to charges of interference with interstate commerce by robbery and brandishing a firearm during a federal crime of violence.

Court records indicate that on December 1, 2022, McKeithen, Mendenhall, and Scott entered a convenience store on U.S. Highway 331 in Montgomery County while armed. Scott monitored the door with his firearm drawn as McKeithen and Mendenhall approached the counter. McKeithen jumped over the counter and held his gun to the clerk's head while demanding money from the register. Mendenhall kept her gun pointed at the clerk throughout the incident. After obtaining money from the register, all three fled in a vehicle.

McKeithen’s sentence includes an additional charge for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon stemming from an incident on March 13, 2022. Law enforcement officers in Shelby County found McKeithen in possession of a handgun despite his previous felony conviction which prohibits him from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.

The FBI Mobile Field Office and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation with support from the Montgomery Police Department, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), and Vestavia Hills Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Brandon W. Bates prosecuted this case.
