The United States Attorney’s Office announced its immigration enforcement statistics for the second quarter of 2024, covering April 1 to June 30. The prosecutions are conducted in collaboration with the Tucson and Yuma Sectors of Customs and Border Protection’s U.S. Border Patrol, Homeland Security Investigations, and other federal, state, and county agencies.

During this period, criminal charges were brought against 2,641 individuals for illegal entry or re-entry into the United States in Arizona. Additionally, 319 cases were filed against individuals involved in smuggling undocumented noncitizens within the District of Arizona. The office also prosecuted 53 reactive drug cases originating from immigration ports of entry and checkpoints.

Efforts to reduce migrant smuggling and mitigate risks to affected communities remain priorities for the office and its law enforcement partners. Prosecutions target leaders and coordinators of alien smuggling organizations as well as young adult drivers recruited via social media platforms. Four juvenile smugglers were prosecuted during this time frame.

Federal prosecutors also charged one defendant with assaulting federal officers, emphasizing the importance of protecting law enforcement personnel at the border.

These statistics solely represent prosecutions by the United States Attorney’s Office and do not include individuals subjected only to administrative processes by immigration enforcement officials.
