Mary B. Katicich, a 64-year-old bookkeeper from Marrero, Louisiana, has been sentenced for wire fraud and filing a false tax return. The sentencing was announced by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson on March 25, 2025.
Court documents revealed that Katicich exploited her role as a bookkeeper at a company in Belle Chasse, Louisiana. She diverted funds from the company's bank accounts for personal use and purchased items using company money. Additionally, she filed a tax return for the year 2016 that did not report $120,190.58 of income.
United States District Judge Susie Morgan sentenced Katicich to one year and one day in prison followed by three years of supervised release. She is required to pay restitution totaling $439,650.51 to the company's owner and $28,612.45 to the Internal Revenue Service. A mandatory special assessment fee of $100 was also imposed.
The investigation involved collaboration between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Maria M. Carboni from the Financial Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution.
