Jarrell Knight, 38, of Hammond, Indiana, was sentenced on June 20, 2024, by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 8¼ years in federal prison for distributing 40 or more grams of fentanyl. Knight had pleaded guilty to the charge on March 26, 2024. The sentencing also included an additional 18-month sentence for violating federal supervision from a prior drug trafficking conviction.
On March 16, 2023, Knight met with an individual in Beloit to sell two ounces of fentanyl. Police monitored and recorded the transaction, and the substance tested positive for fentanyl. A federal grand jury indicted Knight in September 2023, leading to his arrest in Hammond, Indiana.
At the sentencing hearing, Judge Conley remarked that Knight had spent most of his adult life profiting from others' suffering by exploiting their drug addictions. He highlighted that Knight's act of selling drugs while under federal supervised release from a previous conviction was an aggravating factor.
The investigation was conducted by the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, Beloit Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Anderson prosecuted the case.
