A federal jury has convicted John Joseph Simmons, II, age 34, from Nashville on charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. The conviction follows an incident on May 13, 2023, when Simmons was stopped for evading barricades set up for the annual Blooming Festival in Nashville with a loaded gun in his car.
Mark Williams, a 22-year-old resident of New Orleans, was sentenced on June 25, 2024, by U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey to 66 months in prison. The sentence also includes three years of supervised release and a $300 mandatory special assessment fee. Williams had previously pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute tapentadol and marijuana, as well as possession with intent to distribute these substances and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
WILMINGTON, N.C. – A Wilmington man was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for possession of a stolen, loaded firearm, which was apprehended after he dropped it in the playground of a daycare while fleeing from police. On February 21, 2024, Shaquille Gregg, age 29, pled guilty to the charge. The sentence imposed is the statutory maximum for this crime.
NEWARK, N.J. – A Georgia chiropractor who owned or operated multiple durable medical equipment (DME) companies and a cancer genetic testing (CGx) company admitted her role in a health care fraud and illegal kickback conspiracy, Attorney for the United States Vikas Khanna announced today.
Ernest Green, age 55, a New Orleans resident, was sentenced on June 26, 2024, by U.S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon after previously pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine and being a felon in possession of firearms. Green received a sentence of 78 months imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and a $200 mandatory special assessment fee.
Christopher Montrell Williams, a 33-year-old resident of Goldsboro, has been sentenced to 240 months in federal prison for distributing cocaine in the Goldsboro area. Williams pled guilty on August 31, 2021.
Tampa, Florida – U.S. District Judge William F. Jung has sentenced Albert Bayer, 64, of South Carolina and formerly of Hillsborough County, Florida, to one year and one day in federal prison for theft of government funds. As part of his sentence, the court also entered an order of forfeiture amounting to $76,547, representing the proceeds of the offense. Bayer entered a guilty plea in March 2024.
Jarrell Knight, 38, of Hammond, Indiana, was sentenced on June 20, 2024, by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 8¼ years in federal prison for distributing 40 or more grams of fentanyl. Knight had pleaded guilty to the charge on March 26, 2024. The sentencing also included an additional 18-month sentence for violating federal supervision from a prior drug trafficking conviction.
Kenneth Archie, 44, of Columbia, was sentenced to more than five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana.
Casey Alexander, 27, of London, England, has been sentenced to three years of probation by U.S. District Judge Solomon Oliver after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Alexander is also required to pay $202,195.58 in restitution for his role in a fraudulent scheme targeting elderly investors in the United States.

Christopher Lee Thompson, a 46-year-old resident of Palmetto, Florida, has been sentenced to 60 years in federal prison for producing child sexual abuse material. U.S. District Judge William Jung handed down the sentence and ordered the forfeiture of two cellphones, an external hard drive, a box of DVDs, and a 128GB Micro SD Card connected to the offense. Thompson entered a guilty plea on March 6, 2024.
