Huntington man sentenced to six months for distributing fentanyl

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Melvin Pearson Jones, 40, of Huntington, was sentenced today to six months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for distribution of fentanyl.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on August 3, 2023, Jones sold a quantity of fentanyl to a confidential informant at his Huntington apartment for $300. Jones admitted to the transaction and to arranging it beforehand with the confidential informant. He further admitted to selling approximately 6.11 grams of heroin and fentanyl to the same informant in Huntington on August 9, 2023.

United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the sentence and commended the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Huntington Police Department.

United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers imposed the sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie Taylor prosecuted the case.
