Bighill Garners CFL's All-Decade Honors

The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced its first-ever All-Decade Team, presented by LeoVegas, after five months of fan voting.  Former Wildcat linebacker Adam Bighill earned a selection to the First Team All-Decade squad.

The First and Second teams, each featuring 29 individuals, were decided by fans, a selection committee and a media panel.

Fans were treated with a special 20-minute show that showcased the first and second All-Decade team as well as interviews with players and instant analysis.

"The names on this list have all accomplished legendary feats. I've played with many, and studied film against the rest," Bighill said via Twitter.  "Humbled to be a part of this group, and part of such a talented league. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of it and has supported me from day one!"

Bighill took over the starting linebacker job in 2012 for the BC Lions and ended the year being named a league all-star, his first of six total all-star selections.  In 2015, Bighill earns his first CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player with 114 defensive tackles, seven special teams tackles, four sacks, and one interception.

His career took him to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2018. In his first season with the Blue Bombers, Bighill earned his second Most Outstanding Defensive Player selection.  He finished the season with 105 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, four sacks, two interceptions, one defensive touchdown, and four forced fumbles.

Twice, thus far in his career, Bighill has won the Grey Cup.  He recorded 28 total tackles in 12 games during his rookie season with the BC Lions in 2011.  The Lions finished atop the West Division and won the franchise's sixth Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 34-23.  Then, in 2019, Bighill added a second championship to his career.  After signing with Winnipeg in 2018, the Blue Bombers captured their first Grey Cup since 1990 with a 33-12 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.  Bighill notched four tackles and recovered a fumble in the 2019 Grey Cup.

Throughout his career, Bighill has tallied 655 defensive tackles in 132 games.  He has brought down the opposing quarterback for a total of 41 sacks and has intercepted 12 passes.  BIghill has also forced 14 fumbles, notched 70 special teams tackles, and has two defensive touchdowns.

As a Wildcat, he racked up a total of 314 tackles in four seasons, which is ranked fourth all-time in program history. Of his 314 total tackles, 163 were on a solo effort, a mark that is ninth in CWU history. His 151 assisted tackles in fourth-best in program history.

An area where Bighill was a force came in tackles for loss. His 46.0 total in his time with the Wildcats is second-most all-time in program history. His 175 yards from the 46.0 tackles for loss is eighth on the all-time list. All of his tackling numbers rank in the top-15 all-time in Great Northwest Athletic Conference Football history.

Bighill also ranks tied for seventh all-time in CWU history in fumbles forced with five. He has four fumble recoveries in his career which is tied for ninth all-time. He was a three-time All-GNAC selection and in 2010, he was named the GNAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year while earning First Team honors

His honors did not stop there as Bighill also garnered All-Region Honors twice while at CWU. Bighill was also a three-time All-American, including American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) First Team honors in 2010. Academically, he was named CoSIDA Academic All-District as a junior and senior. He played in the Cactus Senior Bowl as well following his final season at CWU in 2010.
