Cole Jeanotte, a 41-year-old from Belcourt, North Dakota, was sentenced in federal court to 30 years in prison for abusive sexual contact of a minor under 12 years of age. The sentencing took place on April 17, 2025, with District Court Judge Peter Welte presiding. After serving his prison term, Jeanotte will face 10 years of supervised release. Additionally, he has been ordered to pay a $100 special assessment fee.

The case came to light when Jane Doe informed her mother in May 2020 about the abuse. Jane Doe revealed that Jeanotte sexually abused her from 2012 until 2013, starting when she was around seven. After the incidents, Jeanotte threatened Jane Doe, warning her against telling her mother about the abuse.

Acting United States Attorney Jennifer Klemetsrud Puhl stated, "The United States Attorney’s Office is committed to prosecuting those who sexually abuse children, regardless of when the disclosure is made. This sentence reflects the egregious nature of Jeanotte’s conduct, and it will ensure the protection of other children."

Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston Sr. of FBI Minneapolis commented, "Jeanotte committed a heinous crime against a defenseless child, and today’s sentence reflect the gravity of that offense. Protecting the most vulnerable members of our society — especially children — is one of the FBI’s highest priorities. We remain steadfast in our commitment to working with our partners to bring predators to justice and protect children from harm."

The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation, and the prosecution was handled by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of North Dakota.
