Dontae Jerome Jones Jr., 20, and JoMya Mauriyne Futch, 21, have pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of bank robbery, with Futch also admitting to perjury, as revealed by Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.
Their accomplice, Yasmin Charisse Millett, 22, had previously pleaded guilty to a bank robbery charge on March 13, 2025.
Court documents detail a pattern of bank robberies carried out between June 2023 and September 2024 by Jones and Millett, targeting banks and credit unions across several locations, including Sacramento, Vallejo, Suisun City, Benicia, Concord, and Antioch. The pair conspired to rob at least ten banks, collaborating with recruits like Futch. Their method of operation involved using demanding notes to threaten bank staff, then exiting the establishments with stolen money.
The defendants are described as actively recruiting and preparing others to participate in the robberies, with Millett promoting the activities on social media by displaying large sums of cash. Some recruits wore disguises, such as dark sunglasses, to avoid detection and used handbags to transport stolen money from the banks.
An incident on July 17, 2023, involved Jones and Millett using a stolen vehicle to assist Futch in a Suisun City bank robbery. After Futch handed in a threatening demand note and retrieved cash, all three suspects divided the stolen money. The vehicle was stopped by police the following day, leading to the arrest of Millett and Jones, along with the discovery of money and a demand note from the robbery.
In a separate instance, Futch provided a false testimony before a grand jury, denying knowledge of involvement in the robbery. The grand jury testimony conflicts with evidence showing her participation.
The prosecution is the result of a collective effort by FBI offices in San Francisco and Sacramento and multiple local law enforcement agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorney Whitnee Goins is handling the legal proceedings.
"Chief U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley is scheduled to sentence Jones and Futch on Aug. 7, 2025." They face a possible 20-year prison term and a fine of $250,000 for bank robbery. Futch's perjury conviction could result in an additional five years and a similar fine. Actual sentences will be subject to judicial discretion and guidelines.
