An El Paso couple has been sentenced to a total of 25 years in federal prison for methamphetamine trafficking and firearm offenses. According to court documents, Carlos Morales, 41, and Rebekah Sue Morales, 55, were apprehended during an FBI operation on March 5, 2024. A traffic stop led to the discovery of two handguns in Carlos' backpack, despite him being a convicted felon. A search of their residence uncovered additional firearms, ammunition, and methamphetamine.

Carlos pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm on January 6, 2025, while Rebekah admitted to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance. U.S. District Judge Leon Schydlower handed Carlos the maximum sentence of 15 years and Rebekah a 10-year sentence. The court also ordered the forfeiture of their home and multiple firearms used in their crimes.

The FBI, supported by agencies including the U.S. Border Patrol, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, El Paso Country Sheriff’s Office, and El Paso Country Constables, led the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Susanna Martinez prosecuted the case.

Acting U.S. Attorney Margaret Leachman for the Western District of Texas announced the sentences.
