Adam F. Sleeper appointed acting U.S. Attorney for Virgin Islands

St. Thomas, VI – The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of the Virgin Islands has announced the departure of Delia L. Smith from her position as U.S. Attorney.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam F. Sleeper has been appointed as Acting U.S. Attorney under the Vacancies Reform Act. In his new role, Sleeper is the chief federal law enforcement official for the territory of the Virgin Islands.

Sleeper's career with the United States Attorney’s Office includes serving as First Assistant U.S. Attorney and as Appellate Chief. His educational background includes an undergraduate degree from Connecticut College and a law degree from Cornell Law School. Prior to joining the Department of Justice, Sleeper clerked for Judge Curtis Gómez of the District Court of the Virgin Islands and Judge Joel Carson III of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He also worked as an associate in the Boston, Massachusetts office of an international law firm.
