George Sisk, a 47-year-old resident of Indianapolis, has been sentenced to 13 years in federal prison. This sentence comes after he pleaded guilty to charges of interference with commerce by robbery, discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, and illegal possession of a firearm. Following his prison term, Sisk will also serve five years under supervised release.
The incident occurred on March 26, 2020, at the Community Spirits Liquor Store on MLK Street in Indianapolis. According to court documents, Sisk attempted to leave the store without paying for alcohol. When an employee locked the doors to prevent his exit, Sisk demanded they be opened and fired a gun at close range, injuring the employee's leg. He escaped with a bottle of Patron tequila after firing another shot.
Sisk was apprehended that evening. A search warrant led officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) to discover a gun and clothes matching those worn during the robbery at his residence.
Having previous felony convictions for dealing narcotic drugs, Sisk is legally prohibited from possessing firearms. Acting United States Attorney John E. Childress emphasized the seriousness of Sisk's actions: "We repeat this notion time after time; everyone deserves to feel safe at their place of work," he stated.
FBI Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge Herbert J. Stapleton remarked on the impact of Sisk's actions: "The defendant’s actions created fear and endangerment in a place where people should feel safe."
The case was investigated by both the FBI and IMPD and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Peter A. Blackett and Corbin Houston under U.S. District Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson.
