A Mexican national, Jose Guadalupe Deciga-Lopez, was arrested in San Antonio on charges related to alleged illegal re-entry into the United States. The arrest occurred during a vehicle stop in New Braunfels on March 3, as outlined in court documents.
Immigration records indicate that Deciga-Lopez has been deported from the U.S. to Mexico multiple times: once in 2014, twice in 2017, again in 2018, and most recently in 2023.
If found guilty, Deciga-Lopez could face up to ten years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Margaret Leachman for the Western District of Texas. The case is being investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Anne Marie Cordova is handling the prosecution.
It is important to note that a criminal complaint is merely an allegation at this stage, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
