Darryl Quander, a 58-year-old resident of Washington, DC, has been sentenced to 40 months in prison for a series of thefts from CVS stores. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Quander pleaded guilty on December 17, 2024, to one count of first-degree theft and three counts of felony enhanced second-degree theft in D.C. Superior Court. Judge Errol Arthur handed down the sentence: 12 months suspended except for four months for the first-degree theft charge and 16 months with all but 12 months suspended for each felony enhanced second-degree theft charge. These sentences are to run consecutively, followed by three years of supervised release.
The government's evidence indicated that between February 26 and April 24, 2024, Quander committed multiple thefts at CVS locations on the 1000 block of 16th Street NW and the 1400 block of P Street NW. During this period, he executed 24 retail thefts over 58 days. Surveillance footage captured him taking items such as Red Bull from store shelves without paying, accumulating over $3,500 in stolen goods.
Quander was arrested on June 10, 2024, for these offenses.
U.S. Attorney Martin and Chief Smith praised the efforts of those involved in investigating the case from both the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
