A Colombian citizen has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges related to illegal re-entry into the United States, as announced by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.
The individual, Heyder Molina Prieto, aged 37, was named as the sole defendant in the one-count indictment. Public records indicate that Prieto was apprehended on November 27, 2024, following charges filed by the Monroeville Police Department and Upper St. Clair Police Department.
According to the indictment, Prieto was discovered in this district in November 2024 after having been removed from the United States on two prior occasions: June 20, 2020, and March 4, 2022.
If convicted, Prieto faces a maximum sentence of up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence will be determined based on the severity of the offense and Prieto's criminal history under federal sentencing guidelines.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca L. Silinski on behalf of the United States government.
The investigation leading to this indictment was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
