NFIB, a prominent small business advocacy group in Washington state, has expressed approval of Governor-elect Bob Ferguson's recently announced budget priorities. The organization supports Ferguson's stance on addressing the state's budget issues without resorting to increased taxation.
Patrick Connor, NFIB's state director for Washington, stated, "Washington’s small business owners wholeheartedly agree with the governor-elect that we cannot tax our way out of the state’s budget troubles." He emphasized the importance of "responsible spending reductions, thoughtful fund transfers, and a zero-based budget approach" as initial steps towards restoring fiscal discipline in Olympia.
NFIB also highlighted the need for caution when considering reallocating funds from fee-based accounts. The organization stresses ensuring these accounts maintain enough balance to fulfill core obligations without necessitating fee hikes for contributors. This situation could also provide an opportunity to reform programs with surplus fees beyond their intended purposes.
Connor further commented on Ferguson's childcare proposal aimed at supporting small business employees: "We are also encouraged by the governor-elect’s childcare proposal aimed at providing needed assistance to small business employees." He expressed anticipation for more details about this plan to ensure it addresses the specific needs of local employers.
For over 80 years, NFIB has advocated for small and independent businesses across America. As a nonprofit and nonpartisan association founded in 1943, NFIB remains committed to representing these enterprises today.
