United States Attorney Mac Schneider has announced that Assistant United States Attorney Rick L. Volk will lead the Department of Justice's Election Day Program in North Dakota for the upcoming general election on November 5, 2024. Volk, who has served as the District Election Officer for two decades, will oversee handling complaints related to voting rights concerns, threats to election officials, and election fraud.

Schneider emphasized the importance of fair elections: “Lawfully casting a vote without interference or discrimination and having that vote counted in a fair and free election is a fundamental right in North Dakota and across the country.”

Volk has been leading Election Day efforts since 2004 and will be available during polling hours to address any issues promptly. He can be contacted at 701-530-2420 or 701-297-7400.

The FBI will also have agents ready to handle allegations of election fraud nationwide. In North Dakota, they can be reached at 763-569-8000. For federal voting rights violations, complaints can be submitted to the Civil Rights Division via their website or by calling 800-253-3931.

In emergencies involving violence or intimidation, individuals are advised to contact local authorities immediately by calling 911 before reaching out to federal agencies.

The Department of Justice aims to deter discrimination and intimidation at polling places while maintaining public confidence in the electoral process through its longstanding Election Day Program.

Federal law prohibits crimes such as threatening election staff, voter intimidation, bribery, vote buying/selling, impersonation of voters, altering vote counts, ballot stuffing, and unauthorized marking of ballots. The Voting Rights Act ensures voters' rights to mark their own ballots or receive assistance if needed due to disability or language barriers.
