U.S. District Judge Marcia Morales Howard has sentenced German Altamirano-Hernandez, a 42-year-old Mexican national, to two years and six months in federal prison for illegal reentry into the United States. Altamirano-Hernandez pleaded guilty to the charge in June 2024.
Court documents reveal that Altamirano-Hernandez is a native of Mexico who had been granted voluntary removal from the U.S. ten times between 1999 and 2002 after being found illegally present in the country. In 2005, he was apprehended by law enforcement in New Mexico, prosecuted for illegal entry, and subsequently deported to Mexico.
In 2013, Altamirano-Hernandez was encountered again by law enforcement in Florida and convicted of illegal reentry into the U.S., leading to his deportation back to Mexico in 2015 after serving time in federal prison. He faced another prosecution for illegal reentry in Arizona in 2019 and was deported once more in 2020.
The latest incident occurred in March 2024 when deputies from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office stopped Altamirano-Hernandez during a traffic stop. He provided deputies with a false name and fraudulent identification card. A search of his vehicle revealed multiple forms of fraudulent identification. After confirming his identity, authorities arrested him. Altamirano-Hernandez admitted to unlawfully reentering the U.S.
The case was investigated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection along with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Elisibeth Adams.
