A federal grand jury has indicted three men from Houston, Texas, on charges of bank larceny. The announcement was made by Thomas J. Jaworski, Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee.

The indictment accuses Robert Bailey, Jr., 24, Demond Johnson, Jr., 19, and Ryan Smith, Jr., 26, of stealing over $50,000 from an ATM outside Truist Bank on Old Fort Parkway in Murfreesboro on November 14, 2023. During the incident, the ATM was undergoing repairs.

Smith was apprehended while traveling in an Uber on Interstate 24. Johnson was detained at Nashville International Airport. Bailey managed to fly back to Houston but was later arrested there. Law enforcement officials seized the stolen money when it arrived at Houston Hobby Airport.

If found guilty, each defendant could face up to 10 years in federal prison and a minimum fine of $250,000.

The case is being handled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Nashville and Houston Field Offices, alongside the Murfreesboro Police Department and Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph P. Montminy is leading the prosecution.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation and does not imply guilt; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
