Three men were sentenced on July 9, 2024, after previously pleading guilty to felony charges related to their actions during the January 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol. Their actions disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to ascertain and count the electoral votes related to the 2020 presidential election.

Alan Michael St. Onge, 36, of Brevard, North Carolina, was sentenced to 18 months in prison, 36 months of supervised release, and ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution. Kyle Kumer, 43, of Kansas City, Missouri, received a sentence of 10 months in prison and 24 months of supervised release along with a $2,000 restitution order. William “Jessie” Stover, 46, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky was sentenced to six months in prison and 36 months of supervised release and also ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution.

U.S. District Judge Carl J. Nichols handed down the sentences.

According to court documents from January 6th events starting at approximately 2:42 p.m., numerous members of a mob illegally assembled on Capitol grounds attacked members of the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) and Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). These officers were lawfully engaged in defending an entrance known as the Tunnel on the Lower West Terrace.

The Tunnel was identified as one site where violent attacks against police occurred that day. Over more than two hours, rioters struck police with thrown items and chemical irritants while pushing against them and stealing items from those defending the Tunnel.

St. Onge approached from the east before moving westward around noon and joined efforts against police at about 2:55 p.m., reaching further into the Tunnel by around 3:09 p.m., surveillance video showed him pushing against other rioters attempting to breach police lines until expelled by police around nine minutes later.

Kumer reached Lower West Terrace alongside his elderly mother about that same time before encouraging others vocally while joining multiple pushes against police lines until finally being cleared out at roughly quarter past three that afternoon despite having opportunities earlier.
