Timothy M. O’Shea, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Timothy M. Cannon, 36, from La Crosse, Wisconsin, was sentenced to six years in federal prison for distributing 40 grams or more of fentanyl. Cannon pled guilty to this charge on March 21, 2024.

Between April and June 2023, the La Crosse Police Department utilized a confidential informant to conduct four controlled buys of fentanyl from Cannon. During each transaction, Cannon sold approximately 40-50 grams of fentanyl to the informant. Additionally, law enforcement discovered 43.2 grams of fentanyl in Cannon's backpack during a search of his apartment.

At sentencing, U.S. District Judge William M. Conley highlighted the dangers posed by fentanyl in the community and condemned Cannon’s involvement in trafficking the drug. He stated that Cannon’s actions were driven by greed and that he was harming others for financial gain.

The charges against Cannon stemmed from an investigation conducted by the City of La Crosse Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kathryn E. Ginsberg and Louis Glinzak prosecuted the case.
