Gov. Jay Inslee has said workers and businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic will be able to receive additional economic support.
"The needs among our small businesses are profound, and speed is of the essence," Department of Commerce Director Lisa Brown said in a Medium post on the governor's page.
With the announcement, Inslee also extended current coronavirus restrictions in the state by three weeks, the governor said in a post on his Medium page.
With this decision, COVID-19 restrictions will expire Monday, Jan. 4, unless extended again.
"What we do between now — when COVID activity is still at crisis levels — and the time when vaccines are widely available, is literally a matter of life and death," Inslee said in his Medium post.
Inslee said that the additional $50 million is to help more small businesses receive aid if the pandemic impacted them.
"This additional funding allows us to double the number of small businesses we can provide aid to, but we know it's not enough," Brown said in the post. "As we battle the toughest months of this pandemic, we need Congress to step up so we can support our businesses and workers as we continue asking them to do these hard things."
