WSDOT Aviation accepting applications for new Sustainable Aviation Grant

0Comments

The Washington State Department of Transportation Aviation Division is currently accepting applications for a grant program for airports to establish sustainable aviation projects for airports.

Sustainable aviation projects may include but are not limited to: electrification of ground support equipment; electric aircraft charging infrastructure; airport clean power production; electric vehicle charging stations or fuel cell electric vehicle hydrogen stations whose infrastructure may also support ground support equipment and/or electric aircraft charging; and sustainable aviation fuel storage.

To apply, airports can fill out the Sustainable Aviation Grant Program Application (PDF 3.5MB) and refer to the airport aid application checklist (PDF 527KB) for potential supporting documentation to be submitted with the application. WSDOT requires airport aid grant assurances (PDF 96KB) be submitted with the application package.

Applications are due no later than 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31. WSDOT will submit a prioritized list of recommended projects for funding to the Legislature and anticipates awarding grants after July 1, 2023.

Projects will be evaluated on their ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the modification of airport infrastructure to:

  • Adopt clean forms of transportation.
  • Adoption of on airport clean power generation.
  • Modification of existing infrastructure resulting in less dependence on fossil fuels.

During the 2022 Legislature’s session, Gov. Jay Inslee signed Substitute Senate Bill 5975 directing the WSDOT to develop this program.

Information on how to apply for an Airport Transformation Grant is included in the Sustainable Aviation Grant Program Application.
