Washington women’s tennis falls to UCLA in Big Ten quarterfinals

Washington women’s tennis was eliminated from the Big Ten Tournament after losing to fourth-seeded UCLA on Friday, April 24. The match took place in Columbus, Ohio.

The result means Washington’s postseason fate will be determined by the upcoming NCAA Selection Show, which is scheduled for Monday, April 27 at 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time on NCAA.com.

Washington started strong by winning the doubles point. Erika Matsuda and Karolina Kozakova secured a victory on Court 2 with a score of 6-3, while Reece Carter and Jermine Sherif won their match on Court 3 with a score of 6-4. The doubles match on Court 1 was not finished.

In singles play, UCLA came back to win points on Courts 1, 3, 5 and 6. Notably, Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer defeated Reece Carter in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) on Court 1. Other completed matches saw Kate Fakih beat Alexia Jacobs (6-3, 6-3), Olivia Center defeat Marie Weissheim (6-1, 6-4), and Ahmani Guichard win over Karolina Kozakova (6-0, 6-4). Two singles matches were not finished when the overall result was decided.

The Huskies will now wait for their potential placement in the NCAA postseason tournament.
